Mount Kilimanjaro

A 10-day expedition designed to push your limits, build resilience, and develop leadership skills in one of the world’s most awe-inspiring environments. You will trek through multiple ecosystems, from lush rainforest to alpine desert, as you ascend Kilimanjaro (5,895m) - the highest freestanding mountain on Earth and one of the Seven Summits.

DAY ONE
Arrive at Kilimanjaro airport (Arusha) and transfer to hotel
  • Transfer to the hotel in Moshi (approximately 1 hour).
  • Rest and relax in the hotel as the team arrive throughout the day.
DAY TWO
Preparation day and school visit
  • Briefing day in the hotel and meet the team and guides.
  • Your opportunity to rent any kit you may need.
  • Visit to a school set up by Adventure Alternative to support the children of the porters and part funded by BecomingX Foundation.
DAY THREE
Start the climb of Kilimanjaro (1,790m - 2,980m)
  • Transfer to the Machame gate at 1,790m (1 hour drive).
  • Register at the gate, with the likelihood of seeing monkeys.
  • Commence the trek through the montane forest up to Machame camp at 2,980m (approx. 6 hours).
DAY FOUR
Machame Camp to Shira Plateau (2,980m - 3,840m)
  • Trek up to the Shira Plateau through the thinning forest and onto the huge volcanic plateau (approx. 6 hours).
  • The camp provides great views of the summit massif.
DAY FIVE
Shira Camp to Barranco camp (3,840m - 3,950m)
  • Traverse two valleys and skirt the base of the summit massif.
  • Ascend 700m up the Lava Tower, and see the incredible rock formations, before descending to Barranco camp (approx 6 hours).
DAY SIX
Barranco camp to Karanga Valley (3,950m - 3,950m)
  • Scramble over the Barranco wall up to 4,200m before dropping down to camp with views of Helm Glacier (approx. 5 hours).
DAY SEVEN
Karanga Valley to Barafu Camp (3,950m - 4,550m)
  • Head upwards towards the open rock where we will camp amongst the rocks at Barafu Camp ‘ice’ (approx. 4 hours).
DAY EIGHT
Barafu - summit - Millennium (4,550m - 5,985m - 2,800m)
  • Start ascending at approximately midnight with a night-time ascent over rock, scree and occasionally snow.
  • Reach the crater rim and continue up to the summit ‘Uhuru Peak’.
  • Descend in daylight down to Barafu camp for an early lunch before heading down to Millennium camp (approx. 11 hours total).
DAY NINE
Millennium camp - Hotel (2,800m - 900m)
  • Make the final descent to the Mweka gate and collect your BecomingX and Kilimanjaro summit certificates.
  • Say goodbye to your mountain staff and sort the tips, before driving back to the hotel for a shower and celebration!
DAY TEN
Departure day
  • Head home, or continue your adventure with a safari or trip to nearby Zanzibar.
